While CBS was tearing up the night time airwaves in the 1970s with the gorgeous Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, Saturday morning TV wasn’t too far behind.
There were a few live action heroines there that made a lot of young red blooded males (and a few females) hearts beat faster.
Like Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.
They were a throw back to the old 1966 Batman TV show.
They in no way tried to take themselves seriously.
But those two beautiful women clad in spandex overacting....it was great.
In a 70s way.
Sid and Marty Krofft's TV show only had 16 episodes, but those episodes burned themselves into American TV culture.
You had the beautiful Electra Woman (who was played by Deidre Hall) and her way too cute teenage sidekick Dyna Girl (Judy Strangis in pigtails).
Deidre appeared for over 30 years on the NBC Soap opera Days of Our Lives as Dr. Marlena Evans, and Judy was know (at least to me) from her role on Room 222.
Like Batman had "Bat" everything, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl followed suit.
They changed into superheroes via the "Electra-Change," they had an "ElectraCar," they operated out of "ElectraBase," and where Batman had his utility belt, they had their "ElectraComs.".
In 2001 they tried to revive the series with a tongue in cheek TV movie that was set 25 years after the show.
Electra Woman (Markie Post) and Dyna Girl had split up and she was living in a trailer, and a new Dyna Girl (Anne Stedman) was trying to coax her back into the crime-fighting life.
I actually wish it had been made into a series.
It could have been interesting.
But they didnt stop there....
On February 26, 2015, it was announced that YouTube personalities Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart will star in yet another reboot of the series.
The series was shot in Vancouver during February and March 2015.
