Glory - Image Comics

Created by Rob Liefeld in 1993, Image Comic's version of Wonder Woman broke all the Liefeld rules.
No giant pockets, no thighs the size of redwoods and no giant anti-aircraft guns as sidearms!

Like Ghost, Glory is not very popular but worth mentioning.

For one thing, she was created by Rob Liefeld in 1993 and does not have huge pockets all over her costume and doesn’t carry a gun the size of a Buick. Okay...unless you follow comics that doesn’t make sense. But to those of us that know Liefeld...that’s quite an accomplishment for him!

Secondly, she's pretty much Wonder Woman. Just more "fun". Since Glory was an Image Comics character and not DC, Liefeld had more latitude with her. She was born in Amazonia and trained by Amazons (though her father was a demon making her half Amazon, half Demon), she went to the world of man in WW2 and fought the Nazi. What was even more fun was that she got to fight alongside not only the Image version of Superman (Supreme) but also the Image version of Captain America (SuperPatriot). So here in their WW2, you had an alternate version of WW, Supes and Cap all fighting the Axis forces.

Of course like WW, she carried over into the modern world and fought crime, demons etc. Well as much as she could. The series only ran for 34 issues.

As far as powers go, she had Wonder Woman level strength of course, flight, a demon spawned berserker rage and she could teleport through reflective surfaces, which I thought was kinda cool.
Another tie-in to WW was that artist Mike Deodato drew Wonder Woman from 1994 to 1995, then went to Darkhorse and drew Glory from 1995 to 1996.

The character was recently revamped and is now an albino giantess. ::sigh::

I guess these rumors will just keep rolling till actual casting is announced.
But you gotta admit...looking at that one picture of Fred Weller, then looking at the comic book version of the Joker.....

Alan Moore's Watchmen was the only graphic novel to appear in Time magazine's 2005 list of the finest 100 novels written in English since 1923. Moore also wrote The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V for Vendetta, both of which have been turned into movies. Open any of these books and you are plunged into an allusive world of post-modern playfulness, analogy and reference. Symbols of Egyptian gods and sinister Masonic uniforms appear on Professor Moriarty's evil airship as he battles the Invisible Man, Alan Quartermain and brutal Mr Hyde.

Moore is a self-proclaimed magician, and one interpretation of his worldview is the old dictum that when you stop believing in God, you start believing in everything. The more generous interpretation is that the world of the superheroes is a richer one than most people give it credit for, and its authors and artists work within a fascinating tradition, reaching unbroken back into antiquity, in which archetypes are constantly revised, revisited and reinterpreted.

Remember comic books? Those flimsy pages kept together with staples (that seemed to poke you no matter how careful you were when reading them) are a bit more than a seemingly overrated pastime for kids.

During the past few decades, major comic books such as Superman and Spider-Man have been made into major motion pictures. These stories of the strangely costumed and extremely heroic saving the day over and over again never seem to get old. This, believe it or not, is the basis of my film studies class.

Well, not the complete basis.

We look at the evolution of comics in America from the 1930s to present and whether the shift to the big screen does them any justice.

What has this got to do with anything? Stay with me and you will see history may be repeating itself.

I was interested in last week's discussion about the comic book controversy in the 1950s.

I had no idea this inexpensive form of entertainment had almost faced extinction.

Apparently some publishers' work included inappropriately dressed women and too many randomly dismembered body parts. With these books marketed toward a younger readership, who could blame adults for being a bit worried?

Actor Nicolas Cage is releasing a new line of comic books with his teenage son, Weston Cage.
The six-issue illustrated series 'Voodoo Child' will be released on July 11 through Virgin Comics.

Cage revealed that when he was approached with the idea of launching his own animated series books, he decided to take his 16-year-old son on board too.

Drink in hand, attaboys coming at him from every direction, Tom DeSanto was living the fanboy dream.

At the party after the “Transformers” mega-premiere in Westwood on Wednesday night, Mr. DeSanto, one of that action movie’s producers, was the leather-jacketed picture of a hungry Hollywood hustler finally eyeing a hearty meal of credit, money and maybe even a modicum of stature.

It was his enthusiasm for the Transformers comic book and toy line, after all, that in June 2003 persuaded the Hasbro toy company to let him and a partner try to sell a Transformers movie to the studios, and that eventually piqued the interest of DreamWorks. Just as he had once persuaded the director Bryan Singer to drop his skepticism about making a comic-book movie and take on the X-Men franchise for 20th Century Fox. And just as he had once helped stir up interest in a television revival of “Battlestar Galactica,” before being shoved aside as it morphed into a critically acclaimed series on the Sci Fi Channel.
