Wonder Woman 2011 Pilot

Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) brought the Amazon Princess to life in David E. Kelly's new Wonder Woman pilot.
The story and the outfit caused some controversy among internet comic book fans, to the point of the costume being changed (even thoough the producers denied the idea that outrage caused the change)
If you can find the pilot online....well you can watch it if you are really curious.
I wouldnt advise it though.
Adrianne is a great Wonder Woman.
I mean she really looks the part.
Given a better story, this might have really been something and been a forerunner of "Supergirl".
As it is, this Diana basically killed everyone that ran afoul of her, which seems to be popular with comic fans these days.
But it wasn't "Wonder Woman".

Since this, Adrianne went on to play Barbara "Bobbi" Morse (Mockingbird) on the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that character too almost got a series.
Also, one of the Wonder Woman costumes in the pilot wound up worn on Harry's Law by Erica Durance (Smallville's Lois Lane).
She was playing a delusional client who believed she was the real Wonder Woman.
That episode was better than the pilot.

Wonder Woman - Brigitte Goudz

Earlier this year I did a post about the incredible Brigitte Goudz cosplaying Wonder Woman on another blog of mine.
Well I don't know if it was actually considered real cosplay, but she was dressed up as Wonder Woman.
And what a Wonder Woman she is.
Though Brigitte is only five foot six and weighs 135 pounds this is seriously what Princess Diana should look like in real life.

Maybe if the CW's superhero shows need an Amazon Princess for a cameo......

Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman

As live action comic book heroines go, probably the best ever was Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman.
She rivals Chris Reeve as Superman as far as fan loyalty goes even to this day.
At five foot nine, 122-130 pounds and measuring 38-25-35, she filled out the red, white and blue costume quite well.
But it wasn't only that.
This Wonder Woman was kind, gentle and even when faced with the worst bad guys, she implored them to turn over a new leaf and give up their life of crime.
And if they didn't, she used minimum force to take them out.

I prefered the first season, but in the second season episode, Anschluss '77, Nazis hiding in South America tried to rebuild the Third Reich by cloning Hitler.
There is a scene where Wonder Woman sees the "new" Nazis gathering and she has flashbacks to World War 2 as she is watching them.
That was a pretty powerful scene for a show that was usually just fluff.

Wonder Woman - 1940s

I saw these old black and white pictures of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman in the 70s TV series and started thinking....
What if Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter had been a 1940s serial like Batman, Superman or Adventures of Captain Marvel?
Could we have gotten a Justice Society of America serial?
Would superhero films have been an accepted genre in movies like westerns, comedies, science fiction and dramas?

Sara Solomon - Wonder Woman - Joker Connection?

Okay this is kinda weird.....
This is fitness model and fitness trainer Dr, Sara Solomon dressed up as Wonder Woman at a fitness competition.
Sexy Wonder Woman....nice....but then I noticed something.
Wonder Woman is carrying a crowbar.
Why?
Then my mind wandered as it often does.
In the Justice League cartoon, WW and Batman were an item.
And in the comics, Joker "killed" Robin with a crowbar.
Did WW go and take out Joker and took the crowbar as a trophy?
Look at the way she is holding it up over her head in the picture.
The final straw was that picture at the bottom with Wonder Woman running through the streets....and Joker graffiti on the walls.

Maybe I just read too much into things....
Either that or Sara has a vast comic book knowledge and pulled a HUGE inside joke.

Barbie as Wonder Woman

Here we have Wonder Woman Barbie.
She’s been around since 194, ALMOST beating Captain America (Cap’s debut only beat her by around nine months) and along with Superman and Batman, she is one of DC Comic’s Trinity.
The Amazon Princess is very popular and they have been trying to get a live action movie going for years.
Now that Gal Gadot is gonna be the Amazon Princess, we may be closer than ever to actually getting that done.

Wonder Girl - DC Comics

There have been three Wonder Girls in DC.
Diana herself, Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark.

I like the Wonder Girls.
Of course Donna Troy was MY Wonder Girl growing up.
But thanks to "Young Justice: Invasion", I got to know Cassie.

But even though scenes like this are really cool with Wonder Woman and her two sidekicks, the New 52 ruined all that.
I liked Donna and Cassie being Diana's Nightwing and Robin.
Thanks a lot DC.

Justice League: War - DC Universe Animated Original Movies

Yes I finally got around to watching "Justice League: War".
And yes I know it took me long enough.
I liked it.

It wasn't "Under The Red Hood" or "Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox" by any means.
But I hope the Justice League live action movie is at least similar to this.

Artemis of Bana-Mighdall as Wonder Woman?

Maybe if DC wants a grim, dark, violent Wonder Woman, they should reactivate Artemis of Bana-Mighdall as Wonder Woman....
I was kind of disappointed that they didn't use her in "Gods and Monsters"

This six foot two, 155 pound, red haired, green eyed beauty was Wonder Woman for a while. Queen Hippolyta (Wonder Woman's mother) had visions of Diana (our Wonder Woman) being killed and to save her life, she called for a contest for the title of Wonder Woman. Through a little trickery on Hippolyta's part, the Amazon named Artemis won the contest and became the new Wonder Woman. She got the costume, got to go to Man's World and even got to take Diana's place in the Justice League. A fact the Leaguers weren’t too happy about. Especially Batman....

Artemis tried very hard to fill Diana's sandals (HA!) but Arty was a little bit more...shall we say vicious...than Diana and her Amazonian power wasn’t tempered with Wonder Woman's compassion. She even got into it with Wonder Woman's protege, Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl.
Diana herself even donned a new costume and tried to help Artemis acclimate to her new role, because that is how Diana rolls.

Queen Hippolyta's vision finally came true and Artemis was killed in the line of duty. But you cant keep a good woman down and though Artemis died....she got better. Since then she has taken on the identities of Javelin, Requiem, Shim'Tar and Polemarch.

So which one is the best? Well Diana is the better Wonder Woman without a doubt. But technically Artemis is a better fighter (which is saying something), because as Arty herself put it, Diana relies too much on the powers the Gods granted her.

Justice League: Doom

Have you seen the trailer for Justice League: Doom?
If you haven't, here it is....

What make this so amazing is that for this film, they got the band back together!

You have Kevin Conroy as Batman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Michael Rosenbaum as the The Flash, Carl Lumbly as Martian Manhunter and Superman: The Animated Series' Tim Daly as Superman and instead George Newbern which I'm kinda on the fence about.

Also they wont be having John Stewart's GL, but they will have Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan.

And one thing that makes me VERY happy is that Phil Bourassa (Young Justice) is doing the character designs.

The New NEW Wonder Woman Costume

After the internet comic book community went fool on them, the makers of the new Wonder Woman TV show have changed the costume slightly.
Still looks hideous to me.

Wonder Woman and Captain America

This is a tale of two costumes.
One I like… one I do not.

This is the costume design for Captain America: The First Avenger.

Do I like it?
Yes.
It conveys Cap in real life, but keeps the comic book flavor.
Yeah it's got an Ultimates look to it and even a nod to the 40s serial.
But it looks practical and functional.

Now to Wonder Woman’s new costume.

Do I like it?
No.
Didn't they try almost this same design back in the nineties when Artemis took over as Wonder Woman?
And what really hurts my feelings is that it’s designed by one of my favorite artists, Jim Lee.
She looks like an eighties aerobics teacher.
With Superboy's old jacket.

It’s funny that over at the DC Universe Blog, people are ripping it to shreds in the comments.
These would be DC fans too.

Could DC have done better?
Yes?
How?
DC, let me introduce you to Josh McMahon and his redone WW costume.


Now I like this much better.
Functional, fairly practical and it keeps the flavor of the old uniform at least.
And it looks Greek.
